It starts and ends with training
Training is your most valuable tool in driving and upholding standards as well as ensuring that your employees are properly motivated and that their skills are not allowed to atrophy. While you will obviously only send employees with clean driving licenses out on the road, you will also need to ensure that all of your traveling employees will receive in-house training on how to conduct themselves on the road, how to maintain their vehicle to a reasonable standard and the protocol they need to follow if something goes wrong with their vehicle.
Protect your team with tech
Technology is a tremendously effective tool in small business. It can make your processes more efficient and boost productivity, it can enhance the quality of the products and services you offer and make it so much easier to manage your time. When your employees are out on the road, tech can also be used to protect them and to ensure that their high standards are maintained. Telematics can be enormously helpful in monitoring employee time management, while dash cams are very effective in monitoring their behavior on the road. Moreover, if one of your employees is involved in a collision as a result of another driver’s negligence, you will need to hire a lawyer to help them to pursue justice. Your dash cam footage will be invaluable in corroborating their side of the story and ensuring that your reputation remains intact.
Build employee accountability
While you are responsible for establishing the right infrastructure to allow employees to be at their best, it’s up to the employee themselves to monitor their own conduct on the road. Your employees will need to sign a disclaimer stating that they have undergone all relevant training and be responsible for the upkeep of their vehicles and devices. They should also carry out a series of safety checks at the end of every working day.
A safe, accountable and well-protected workforce will surely give your brand the representation it deserves on the road.
