Do You Know Who Your Target Market Is?

The first thing you need to do when you’re trying to come up with a new marketing strategy is to identify your target market. Regardless of how amazing your product is, it’s probably not going to appeal to everybody. You need to work out who is most likely to have an interest in your product and target your marketing efforts toward them. If you don’t do that and you try to come up with a marketing campaign that appeals to everybody, you’ll probably miss the mark, and you won’t connect with customers. So, before you get started on your new marketing campaign, use these methods to work out who your target market should be.

Use Customer Data

Your website is continually collecting a massive amount of data about your customers. How old they are, what gender they are, where they live, what they buy etc. You can use that data to determine the kinds of people that are engaging with your product and then target them with your marketing campaigns. A lot of businesses struggle with this because of the sheer amount of data that you collect. Organizing and analyzing all of that information and finding trends that can help you with marketing is a big job. You might be best finding a professional data handling company like gartner mdm to handle it for you. They’ll be better equipped to work through all of the customer data you’ve collected and put it in a format that you can understand. Then you’ll be able to build a picture of what your average customer looks like and get a better sense of who you should be advertising to.

Check Social Media

The people that follow you on social media and, more importantly, engage with your posts will give you a good idea of who your target market is. Have a look over the profiles of some of the people that follow you and comment on posts regularly and see whether any trends emerge. Are they all people in the same age group? Do you get more engagement from a particular social group? These are all things that can help you to build up a picture of your usual customers. It’s vital that you’re making good use of social media tools to create better posts that encourage customers to engage with you more often. The more interaction you have with people online, the more information you can get about them.

Look At Your Competitors

It’s always a good idea to keep up to date with the competition, and it can really help you to work out which customers you should be targeting. If they’re selling a similar product to you and they’re doing well, they’ve probably identified the right target market. Have a look at the people that are buying their products, this can help you in one of two ways. Firstly, you could try to appeal to that market and take their customers away from them. But you could also look at the people they aren’t targeting and fill that gap in the market.

Once you’ve successfully identified your target market, you can start to build marketing campaigns that actually get results.
